Clear Colonoscopy Prep Gummy Bears

It’s not often that you find a 20 something year old speaking about colonoscopies online, but that is my reality as someone with IBD who was diagnosed at the age of 16 and has been through more colonoscopies now at the age of 25 than most people with probably ever have in their life. I want to shed light on these imperative topics that aren’t spoken about enough to help you know that, no matter what you’re going through, you are not alone.

So, onto the gummy bears – these clear colonoscopy prep gummy bears  are so helpful to have something to chew on and eat amidst all of the drinking of liquids during colonoscopy prep, I make my own so that I can control the flavor/what goes into them without artificial dyes/gluten and the typical ingredients in gummy bears. This is the gelatin powder I personally use for them, and these are the gummy bear molds with droppers that I prefer.

As an fyi – the actual prep is not in the gummy bears lol, it’s to have for the clear liquid diet alongside the prep!

If you’re looking for some additional colonoscopy prep tips, I’ll share a few here as well:

  • if you’re searching for a diagnosis, make sure your doctor takes a biopsy during the colonoscopy if possible! They didn’t find my Crohn’s disease until the biopsy came age, and I truly think it would’ve added even more years to my diagnosis process if they hadn’t done a biopsy because the rest of my scope somehow appeared “normal” to them at first glance.
  • In addition to these clear colonoscopy prep gummy bears, clear bone broths and tummy friendly teas are some of my other go-to’s during prep. They help to calm and soothe my stomach (as much as possible given the situation – ha) and offset some of the upset that can come with ppep. The bone broth also offers a savory/salt aspect to the prep given that everything else you’re probably drinking is super sweet.

    1. If you’re using this clear gummy bear recipe for colonoscopy prep, Concord grape juice would not be approved as you can only have clear liquids.
